When Neil Armstrong took that “giant leap for mankind,” he didn’t just “kick the tires and light the fires” and go. He, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins were proficient aviators before becoming astronauts – but acquiring the skills necessary to manage all phases of Apollo 11’s operations mandated acquiring a vastly different skill set.
“Kicking the tires and lighting the fires” is no way to manage a flight department either. It requires education in business-oriented skills, from budgeting to personnel management – training available via the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) Program.
